the aesthetics of decay
The signs in this section are not meant to be significant statements and can be seen simply as metal words depending on the attitude of the viewer. They are however intended to demonstrate deterioration as a significant component of an artwork and show how the informal takes over from the formal. It is an intended direct reversal of the norm in which the deterioration has become the content and the object, subject to deterioration, the carrier. Of a painting it can be said that the canvas will rot, the stretcher will warp, the paint will peel or crack and the colour will fade. All of this will occur but it is not considered part of the artwork. Such changes will also occur in relation to most objects. (Ultimately the cost of maintenance will be greater than the value of the work.) issued like tickets?
